Turning the tide on plastic pollution

Our Hero – Jo Morley

We’ve nominated, our Head of Marketing & Campaigns Jo, because she is the driving force behind our campaigns and project lead for Refill, our biggest and most well-known campaign, which has to date saved more than 100 million pieces of plastic from ending up in our waste stream. Jo grew up by the sea in Cornwall and has always been committed to protecting the oceans – whether at home or around the world.

“A few years ago, I was lucky enough to work on a project in a remote corner of West Papua where I witnessed first-hand the impact of plastic on communities and some of the most pristine coral reefs in the world. It was that experience that led to City to Sea and I’ve never looked back.”

What can I do?

Whether you live in the city, or you’re at home by the sea, we can all make a difference by connecting our actions to our oceans and reducing the amount of single-use plastic we use.

  • Visit the City to Sea website for money-saving tips, tricks and plastic-free life–hacks to help you on your way.

About the nominator – City to Sea

We’re City to Sea, an environmental organisation on a mission to stop plastic pollution. We run people-powered, community–serving campaigns that help individuals and businesses to change the world whilst having some fun on the way.

Our campaigns and work contribute to several of the UN’s global goals but the one that runs through everything we do and is at the core of who we are as an organisation is goal 14 – life below water. Oceans cover almost three quarters of the planet, comprising the largest ecosystem on Earth. And they also sit at the heart of City to Sea’s campaigns.

At City to Sea, we’re campaigning to turn the tide on plastic pollution, protecting our precious oceans the ecosystems they hold for future generations. Our campaigns focus on tackling the single-use plastic items most found on our beaches, in our rivers and in the oceans. We believe that we need to need to turn off the tap when it comes to solving the plastic crisis. We’re not cleaning beaches, we’re trying to stop plastic ending up there by creating practical solutions to some of the most polluting items and helping people connect their actions to our oceans so all life can thrive.
