Why Earth Day Matters

22nd April is a day of hope and optimism every year. Why? Because millions of people celebrate our incredible planet and take action to protect her.

In 2026, when we have been treated to the incredible new images of our home planet from Artemis II, we can be newly inspired to take action. Environmental progress is built through everyday action—from communities protecting ecosystems to innovators advancing solutions. Clean air, safe water, and climate resilience aren’t optional—they’re essential to everyone. Every action counts. Every voice matters.

That’s why at Global Goals Centre, we run Earth Day Heroes Awards, to encourage young people aged 7-21 to create a project, and take action on the environmental issues that matter most to them. By providing mentoring and micro grants, and then rewards for their efforts, we are supporting thousands of young people who are excitedly working on Earth-friendly projects in their schools and communities.

Award Winners! Earth Day Heroes 2025

You can be part of this wonderful project by making a donation – and all donations 22nd-29th April will be doubled thanks to the Big Give!  Help make Earth Day Heroes 2026 a success! – Big Give

Think of the impact each of these young people can make, both now and, if encouraged and motivated, well into the future. We need more heroes, capes are optional.
