Okayama Education in Sustainable Development Award Winners 2025

What an honour to have won the Okayama ESD (Education in Sustainable Development) Award 2025! The hard work of the team at the Global Goals Centre was given centre stage alongside the amazing work of Amazon Forever. In a beautiful ceremony, hosted by our wonderful hosts in Okayama, our innovative education work was honoured and rewarded for:

  • Creating creative, fun, out-of-the-box education programs that tackle the key social and environmental issues of our time head on.
  • The way we partner with communities, city authorities, artists, private companies, schools, funders, universities and young people to make sure our work is relevant and sustainable as well as reaching the right people.
  • How we have managed to turn Sparks into a living classroom that allows learners to see first hand the challenges and successes of creating sustainable and fairer cities.

We have been at it for 5 years, but this feels like just the beginning. As our co-director, Manu Maunganidze, pointed out in his acceptance speech, the future we seek both in education and society is aonly possible when we work across divides, seek out partnerships and place the most vulnerable people at the centre of our work.

We look forward to working with even more of you to create even better programs of work. Get in touch if you want to get involved in our mission. If you’re a school in the South West, come visit us for your young people to experience our [ahem] award-winning workshops.

Thanks to our partners at Sparks, ArtSpace Lifespace for bringing their immense expertise of giving love to unloved spaces, to make our work reach the next level. And all the shop-owners, artists, plumbers, building managers, cleaners, security personnel, shoppers who make Sparks the unique place it is.
