About this resource

This beautiful collection of photographs shows artworks of young refugees from the Za’atari and Azraq refugee camps. To minimise tension amongst young people from the camp artist Joel Bergner has been travelling to Jordan since 2013 to work on a collaborative art project. Hundreds of children had the opportunity to participate and bring colour to the desolate environment of their camp.

Why we recommend this resource

Growing up in a refugee camp has many challenges and affects young people’s well-being. This project shows how art can transform refugee camps and bring the message of hope to its residents. It is a great inspiration for anyone who is interested in using art to promote social cohesion.
